I remember it like it was yesterday. I’d just turned 50 years old. Imagine my surprise when I went to my doctor after 2 years of experiencing dizziness, blurred vision and moodiness, and walked out with a diagnosis of Type 2 diabetes.

My blood sugar was more than 3 TIMES what it should be! Funny thing is I’ve never really indulged in candy, sweets or junk food and didn’t understand why I gained weight. I only ever ate when I was hungry, and then only until I was full.

What’s even more surprising is that my mother, who was diagnosed as the same age as I, was given the same exact dietary advice. The same unfortunate advice that only worsened her health until she died at age 75. Doctors said, “Stay away from saturated fat! Eat carbs!” I was appalled that they still associated diabetes with fat, and knew I had to find a better way, so I did some research of my own.

It didn’t take long before other diabetics who successfully used diet to maintain a normal blood sugar range told me about the LCHF diet. I immediately started eating a low carb, high fat diet and within 5 weeks I’d lost 11 lbs and my blood sugar level had dropped to less than two times where the doctor wanted them. Fast forward to 4 weeks later, and I’d lost another 11 lbs and dropped my blood sugar down within the normal range. During the following 2 months I lost an additional 16 lbs, maintained a healthy blood sugar level and regained my health – all by ignoring the Dr. recommended diet and choosing what I knew worked best for my condition.

LCHF saved my life!

I’ve shed over 110 lbs (50 kg), without exercise (!) and gone from a size 22 to a size 10.
18 months ago I was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease of the muscles. On top of that, my general health was a disaster. My 5”2 body weighed over 260 lbs,(120 kg). I suffered from high blood pressure, high cholesterol, hypoglycemia, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), migraines and irritable bowel syndrome. I was a complete mess and realized I had to do something or my life was in jeopardy.
Over the past decade I had tried every diet in the book, all of them leaving me hungry and starved and ultimately leading back to my bad eating habits, resulting in gaining even more weight than before.
I did hours and hours of research on LCHF and decided to embark on this lifestyle and not only did it immediately change my life, I also enjoyed it. In the first month I lost 15 lbs (7 kg) and the weight just kept flying off after that.
As my journey progressed I I noticed my health improving immensely. My skin looked great, my migraines were less frequent, I had more energy and felt less tired during the day.
About 9 months in I had a full blood panel. My doctor, who was not a LCHF fan to start with, was just as surprised and amazed as I was when the results came back and showed that everything was back to normal.
I am now off my blood pressure and migraine meds, my monthly cycle is back to normal, my inflammation markers are down, and I am in less pain from my disease.
